So we had an Instagram contest called #feelingfall and it didn’t go as expected.
Sometime in September, our two copywriters brainstormed how to spice up our social media accounts and come up with some fresh content.
But instead of just shouldering the responsibility of creating festive posts, they decided to delegate different weeks to other employees for some variation.
And they figured…why not make a contest out of it?
To keep the contest simple and narrow the focus, Key Web Concepts’ Instagram account was selected as the platform to rotate throughout the following weeks.
From September 18th to November 10th, the account got assigned to different employees, and the guidelines were simple:
- Post 2-5 pictures of your favorite fall activities or whatever makes you feel like fall
- Include the hashtag #feelingfall
- Don’t duplicate photos that others have already posted
Not only did it encourage people within the office to engage more on social media, it drew in more followers to our Instagram. Likewise, each picture shared during the contest received roughly 63 more likes than our average photo.
The #feelingfall contest did boost our Instagram account but it also brought our company together as we shared ideas and learned more about each others’ lives.
Here are a few of our favorite posts from #feelingfall:
Even more unexpected than the perk of bonding employees, was the fact that one person blew the contest out of the water. Literally, no one got even close to matching how many likes she received on her posts.
504 likes on one picture alone. Game over. She will soon enjoy the well-deserved prize – dinner on all of us.
If you’re considering doing a social media contest with your company, we 10/10 recommend. For more insights on how to make it an effective and bonding activity, contact us today! We’d love to share our ideas with you.
