Hi there, my name is Michael (Mike) Hayes, and I’m the newest web designer at Key Web Concepts.
I have always had trouble summing myself up into a few words. It’s probably because I don’t like words. That is probably the main reason I don’t use Twitter and I love Instagram. A picture is worth a thousand words, and to a designer I feel they’re worth ten-thousand.
I grew up in Hopewell, VA for 18 years and then I went off to college at Virginia Tech to study Industrial Design. College was such an awesome time and I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s hard to believe I’ve been out of school for as long as I have. I’m about to turn 26! Yikes! I graduated from college and moved to Richmond shortly after. I love RVA and everything about it. It also helps that a lot of my friends from school live here as well, so fun is never far away.
I started my job at Key Web back in November, and I really like it here. Everyone is very easy to get along with and it doesn’t take long to become a part of the family. However, I have a lot of hidden sides about me that people don’t see from me until they have known me for awhile. Here are some main points that would really help my Key Web team (and anyone reading this) to get to know some of the things that make me tick.
Lets go for a ride
My main hobbies (right now) would be Road biking/Mountain biking. I own three bikes at the moment: A Fuji commuter, a Gary Fisher mountain bike, and a Nashbar touring bike, and I love each of them equally. I started biking over a year ago and there was no looking back. It’s nice to be able to get out and get around quickly when you need to. No need to worry about parking, gas, or needing to go to the gym for the day.
Football, specifically college football, is my one true love (aside from my family and friends, of course). Being from VT, I bleed orange and maroon, and there is no changing that. My Saturdays consist of waking up, watching College Gameday, and watching as much football as I can the rest of the day. I think I like college football just because I have more of a connection to it. It was a big part of my school experience and I’ll love it forever.
I’m a big fan of a lot of sports. I play a lot of the social sports Richmond has to offer. I started out with kickball, and now I do dodgeball, broomball (Look it up! It’s awesome), and football. I have made some awesome friends along the way because of it and I’m very grateful for that. I’ve been doing it for almost three years now and I don’t think I’ll stop anytime soon. It keeps me active and it keeps me in touch with my inner 5th grade self!
From all of these points you might think I am some kind of athlete, and that is very much NOT the case. I just like sports; they bring people together in a way that is hard to replicate.
I have high hopes to grow as much as possible as a designer while I’m at KeyWeb, mainly because I like being someone that co-workers can rely on instead of someone they have to help drag along. Who knows, maybe one day I can get them to join my kickball team!
